In Bosnia and Herzegovina’s textile industry, low-margin mass production has long been the norm. For decades, factories churned out contract exports for foreign brands, leaving little room for local creativity, sustainable practices or artisanal craftsmanship, according to the International Finance Corporation.
When designers and entrepreneurs Edina Hadzic and Sabina Muratagic-Daul co-founded Sugar on Top in 2020, they wanted to change that. Their vision was to build a circular fashion studio that would do more than make clothing: it would create stable, dignified jobs for women artisans, revive traditional craft techniques and prove that Bosnia’s textile sector could compete on quality rather than low-cost volume.
