The SMART Myanmar Project together with the Myanmar Garment Manufacturer Association (MGMA) organised a participatory workshop in Yangon in September. It was attended by 19 participants from 12 textile factories involved in the SMART Myanmar’s production improvement programme.
Launched last year with assistance from the EU, the project is designed to increase the competitiveness of small and medium-size enterprises in Myanmar’s clothing sector.
Focused on tangible and practical skills, the workshop aimed to help garment factories explore the possibility of transition from cutting-making-packaging (CMP) to free on board (FOB) production, where factory takes care of everything from trims, accessories, fabric, cutting, sewing, packaging, boxing and transportation to the port.
