The 400-year-old Negliubka textile weaving tradition of the Vetka District of Gomel Oblast, Belarus, has been included on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding.
This ancient craft has been preserved by the team at the Vetka Museum of Old Believers and Belarusian Traditions, which houses the largest collection of rushniks (traditional hand-embroidered towels), and by the Negliubka Rural Weaving Centre, whose craftswomen pass on their invaluable skills to young people.
