NGOs demand action on cotton abuses in Uzbekistan

Around 90 civil society organisations worldwide are calling on the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to act on allegations of “systemic labour rights violations” by a cotton producer in Uzbekistan.

Indorama Agro, part of the Singapore-based Indorama Corporation, has been accused of human rights violations, including forced labour and land grabs in Uzbekistan, despite receiving US$130m in loans from the IFC and EBRD to modernise cotton production.
