PFAS found in reusable period products

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), or “forever chemicals”, are being identified in an increasing number of places. Period products are on that list, most likely because of the resistance to stains and liquids conferred by these chemicals.

Building on previously presented research, a team from the University of Notre Dame found that some reusable products, such as period underwear and reusable pads, contained PFAS, which could be absorbed into the body through skin contact.
