Wearable tech for early detection of heart defects

Dr Ruben Ruiz-Mateos Serrano has taken his PhD research to the next level by launching Polytecks – a University of Cambridge spin-out dedicated to faster, earlier and more accurate diagnostics for heart defects.

Spun out of the Department of Engineering in 2025, Polytecks uses wearable electronic textile-based (e-textile) high-density electrode arrays to capture high-resolution bioelectrical signals from the body’s surface.
