The Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) has launched a Natural Textile Fibre Innovation Hub in Santa Cruz, Laguna, aimed at converting agricultural waste into textile materials and supporting local livelihoods.
The facility, located at Laguna University, is the third hub of its kind in the country and focuses on processing fibres from abaca, banana and pineapple. It can handle up to 40 kg of natural fibres for yarn production, allowing farmers and weavers to take part in higher-value stages of textile production.
