In Serbia, the textile industry has played an important role in economic development for centuries.
In addition to a number of challenges that have accompanied it over the past three decades, the industry continues to provide a sizable contribution to the Serbian economy, according to the United Nations Development Programme.
However, around 60 tonnes of textile waste are produced annually in Novi Pazar, one of Serbia’s leading textile centres, leading to major air pollution.
