Slovenia-based SmartMelamine has developed a melamine etherified resin (MER) meltblown nonwoven as a high-performance material with improved thermal and acoustic properties, which could be used in automotive and other transport applications.
A heat-resistant nonwoven made of melamine was originally produced in a single-stage process using a cost-effective thermoplastic method from the Thuringian Institute of Textile and Plastics Research (TITK) in Rudolstadt, Germany.
MER is a modified melamine resin that has a thermoplastic processing window, which makes it applicable in conventional thermoplastic processes, such as extrusion and meltblowing.
The MER has been specifically developed and optimised for the three-step melamine-meltblown technology.
The new meltblown nonwoven was introduced by SmartPolymer, based in Rudolstadt, Germany, at last month’s Techtextil show in Frankfurt.
SmartMelamine is a 50/50 joint venture between Melamin of Slovenia and the TITK Group with an investment of €7m. The nonwoven is expected to be available from a pilot line from September.
