A clothing factory in the Ayeyarwady region of Myanmar has closed owing to a shortfall of raw materials from China, leaving more than 1,000 employees out of work.

The Hua Meng garment factory in Kangyidaunt Township is understood to have closed at the end of February.

A later press report said 13 factories in Yangon and Bago regions had closed or reduced staff since January owing to such factors as a lack of raw materials, no orders and no buyers, according to the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Populations’s factories inspection department.
