Safer, fluid-repellent nonwoven textiles for medical apparel

A solution for making medical nonwovens fluid repellent that eliminates the need for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) has been developed by Magnera.

According to the supplier of advanced material solutions based in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, PFAS have been widely used for decades in medical gowns, drapes and other protective textiles owing to their durability and resistance to water, oil and stains.

However, growing evidence of PFAS persistence in the environment and possible associated health risks has prompted global regulatory action and increasing demand for alternatives.
