Anker launches lightweight flat-woven aircraft carpet
Launched earlier this year, new Flooro flat-woven aircraft carpet looks more like a fabric and weighs 30-70% less than conventional carpeting, but is extremely hard-wearing, says German carpet maker Anker.
Flooro weighs just 800 g/m2, which compares with traditional wool carpets that can weigh up to 2,500 g/m² and the best lightweight aircraft carpets that have a minimum weight of 1,200 m².
Originally conceived in 2013, this innovation has been made possible by a newly developed high-tech weaving system in which the individual threads are woven extremely densely. While a conventional carpet is woven using around 15 threads/cm, Flooro uses more than 34 threads/cm, which produces a flat and extremely compact textile structure.
