Researchers at Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research, based in St Gallen, Switzerland, have developed the first fully recyclable composite material that is also fire-retardant, lightweight, robust and scalable, thereby meeting the stringent safety requirements for aircraft and passenger trains.
The material was developed in collaboration with industrial partner Elantas, a supplier of insulation and protective materials and a subsidiary of speciality chemicals group Altana.
