Inspired by the crash of Air India 171 that killed 260 people in June in Ahmedabad, India, a pair of aviation engineers from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science in Dubai have developed a bizarre design that could help prevent similar disasters.
The aircraft survival system designed by Eshel Wasim and Dharsan Srinivasan to anticipate a crash involves huge, artificial intelligence controlled external airbags. Called Project Rebirth, the multi-layered safety system would retrofit aircraft with a range of sensors that constantly monitor flight conditions.
