Acoustic fabric converts sounds into electrical signals

MIT Fiber Microphone 01 PRESS 0Inspired by the human ear, an “acoustic” fabric developed by US engineers converts audible sounds into electrical signals.

The team from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Rhode Island School of Design has designed a fabric that works like a microphone, converting sound into mechanical vibrations, then into electrical signals, similarly to how the ear hears.
