From analog to digital for fibres
MIT’s Research Laboratory of Electronics, headed by smart fabrics pioneer Yoel Fink, is behind the new fibre that can digitally sense, store and then analyse activity after being sewn into a shirt.
Until now, electronic fibres have been analog – carrying a continuous electrical signal – rather than digital, where discrete bits of information can be encoded and processed in 0s and 1s.
