Smart bra device detects early-stage breast cancer

smart braA smart bra device developed in Nigeria with built-in ultrasound technology can detect breast cancer early, potentially saving African women long journeys to access screening services, according to its inventor.

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in sub-Saharan Africa, with 129,000 new cases diagnosed in 2020. Only around half of these women live for more than five years after being diagnosed, with late diagnosis a major factor, according to the World Health Organization.
