Unicharm plans to buy a Myanmar manufacturer of disposable diapers and feminine hygiene products for an estimated several billion yen.

The Japanese firm will purchase almost all the shares in Myanmar Care Products (Mycare) from a Singaporean investment fund – its parent – and other investors, with plans to complete the deal as early as June.

Mycare sells sanitary products in Myanmar under the Eva brand, holding a market share of just over 50%. Based on the market size, its 2012 sales are estimated at around ¥2bn (US$21.2m).
