Antimicrobial cotton textile with copper ions in nanofibres

A transdisciplinary and multi-institutional research team in the US has developed a new antimicrobial cotton textile with copper (Cu) ions incorporated into the cotton structure at the molecular level, which utilise the strong co-ordination bonding between Cu ions and the cellulose molecules and shows antiviral, antibacterial, wearable and washable properties.
