An estimated 220,000 clothing workers, most of them women, lost their jobs in Myanmar last year owing to the combined effects of the military coup and the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the International Labour Organization (ILO).
The figure is contained in a new report from the ILO, published on the anniversary of the coup, which reveals that 1.6m jobs were lost in the Southeast Asian country over the past 12 months as work in factories, tourism and construction dwindled.
