A barbed mesh for soft tissue closure and hernia repair without the need for sutures is disclosed by a researcher at Washington University, St Louis, Missouri, USA.
The mesh includes self-fixating barbs, which are designed to penetrate and self-adhere to the tissue, to achieve tissue approximation and stability without the wasted time and variability of suturing.
