Bulgarian exports started 2019 well, but signals from major trading partners in the EU are not encouraging, with a resulting decline in the production of textiles and clothing.
Fashion companies were the first to see indications that EU consumption was slowing and orders stalling, and this was reflected in their 2018 results. For 2019, expectations are a further reduction in sales, judging by the decline in orders.
According to industry data, Bulgaria’s 2018 exports of textiles and clothing amounted to €2.01bn (US$2.22bn), a decrease of 0.6% compared with 2017, with clothing holding a 71% share.
