Organisations campaigning to improve conditions in the Uzbek textile industry have received a boost with the signing of a two-year memorandum of co-operation that aims to improve working environments and prevent forced labour.
The co-operative agreement, which will work to promote transparency and commitments to labour rights by creating a dialogue between cotton enterprises, global brands, government agencies and worker representatives, has been signed by such bodies as the US-based Center for International Private Enterprise, the Association of Cotton-Textile Clusters of Uzbekistan, the Solidarity Center and the Uzbek Ministry of Employment.
