European Commission launches anti-subsidy probe against Vietnamese polyester staple fibre imports

The European Commission (EC) has opened anti-subsidy investigations into polyester staple fibre (PSF) originating in Vietnam, as well as China and India, reports the Vietnam Competition Authority. The investigations will be concluded within 13 months from 19 December 2013.

The EC said it had received a complaint of protectionism against subsidised imports from countries that are not members of the EU, alleging that imports of PSF originating in the three countries are being subsidised and therefore causing material injury to the EU industry.

The complaint was lodged on 4 November by the European Man-made Fibres Association CIRFS on behalf of producers representing more than 25% of the total production of PSF in the EU.
