Face masks offer antiviral protection through embedded active zinc ions

Acteev virus cutawayAscend Performance Materials has submitted a 510(k) pre-market notification to the US Food and Drug Administration for clearance to market its Acteev technology in two high-efficacy surgical masks to protect against SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

The masks, a nanofibre and a microfibre nonwoven version branded under the Acteev Biodefend range of medical devices, provide antiviral and barrier protection against microbes, harmful airborne particles and fluid splatter, says the company of Houston, Texas, USA.
