In the first two months of 2017, Indonesia’s textile and textile product (TTP) exports touched US$2bn, up 3% compared with the same period in the previous year.
“The TTP industry, which is also an export-oriented labour-intensive sector, can be a social safety net because it employs a lot of workforce, up to now estimated at 3m workers,” said Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto.
The Ministry of Industry noted that the TTP industry’s investment in 2016 reached IDR7.54trn (US$566m), with significant foreign exchange gained from exports valued at US$11.9bn, as well as employing 17% of the total workforce in the manufacturing industry.
