The Khmer Silk Center has opened at the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) with the aim of boosting research in Cambodia’s silk industry, reports the Phnom Penh Post.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Minister of Education, Youth and Sport Hang Chuon Naron said he hoped the centre will stimulate development in the sector so as to reduce migration into urban areas and provide an opportunity for farmers to learn farming, harvesting and weaving skills as part of the traditional silk-making process.
