Labour rights abuses in Myanmar's garment sector

previewWith women accounting for around 90% of the garment sector labour force, a recent study by the International Labour Organization indicated that around 250,000 workers in Myanmar’s clothing sector became unemployed following the February 2021 military coup.

According to the Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association, nearly 600 clothing factories with around 500,000 workers exported textile and apparel products worth US$4.37bn in 2019.
