A film that protects wounds and helps them to heal quickly, repels bacteria, dampens inflammation, releases active pharmaceutical ingredients in a targeted manner and ultimately dissolves by itself, is being developed by researchers at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Germany. This is made possible by its design and the use of mucins – molecules that occur naturally in mucous membranes.
