Myanmar clothing industry receives growing amount of foreign investment

Myanmar’s clothing industry has received a large amount of foreign investment over the past six months, according to the Myanmar Investment Commission. The employment rate in the industry has also increased.

Industry sources say Japan and South Korea have placed most orders from garment factories in Myanmar. The US and Europe have also increased orders after Myanmar was allowed into a trade preferences scheme by the EU.

According to an official from the Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association, nearly 20 new factories are preparing to launch operations this year.
