Employment and export statistics clearly show that Myanmar’s clothing industry continues to record exponential growth. Less visible are a range of important changes occurring in the sector. Today, the garment industry is very different from that of five years ago.
Myanmar’s apparel exports increased from less than US$1bn in 2012 to US$1.8bn in 2015 and will probably reach US$2.8bn in 2017. At the same time, employment in the sector has also been strongly increasing.
