Myanmar's textile and clothing industry needs 'completely rebuilding’

German textile machinery manufacturer of complete finishing lines Interspare was able to acquire a good appraisal of the textile and clothing industry in Myanmar when it took part in a market exploration trip to the country organised by Ostasiatische Verein. The programme included visits to Yangon, Naypyidaw and Mandalay.

The trip, initiated by the VDMA and conducted in November, offered German companies from the machine and systems engineering sector with a focus on textile machinery and clothing and leather technology, the chance to learn about the opportunities to enter the market as well as the associated prospects for the textile and clothing industry in Myanmar.

The main focus was to provide useful contacts to policy makers and representatives of relevant associations, such as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) and the Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association.

Interspare chief executive officer Dirk Polchow was generally satisfied with the success of the trip, even if he only places business prospects in Myanmar in the medium-to long-term area.
