At the Passenger Experience Conference held ahead of last month’s Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany, Gary Weissel of Tronos Aviation Consulting presented an optimistic forecast for the future 10 year aircraft seating demand.

The commercial jet aircraft fleet represented 27,500 aircraft in 2014 and this is forecast to increase to 37,900 aircraft by 2024, with major growth expected in the Asia Pacific region, followed by North America and Europe.

Air transport jet commercial fleet growth is predicted to increase from 1,420 aircraft in 2014 to 1,890 during 2024, involving a total of 19,000 new aircraft deliveries and 7,400 aircraft retirements during the 2014-2024 period.

It is estimated there are currently 3.4m seat places in active service in jet transport aircraft, of which about 93% are economy seats and 7% premium seats.
