Pleated textile tube for ventilation of surgical wounds

At November’s Medica medical technology trade fair in Düsseldorf, Germany, the German Institutes of Textile and Fiber Research Denkendorf (DITF) exhibited a new device that can reduce nosocomial infections, which can lead to serious complications.

The innovation comprises a porous tube designed to reduce the risk of microbial contamination during surgical operations. Germ-free air is introduced into the operating field via the so-called airflow ring, thereby preventing the entrance of harmful pathogens.
