According to the Customs Agency, in 2016 and the first two months of 2017, Bulgaria imported 12.4 tonnes of second-hand clothing worth BGN22.1m (US$14m) from non-EU countries, mainly the US, Switzerland, Canada and Norway. Some of this clothing was re-exported to Pakistan, Turkey, Benin, Guinea and India.
In 2017 exported quantities were more than 17,000 tonnes worth over BGN31m (US$20m).
