Russian clothing market posts decline

The Russian clothing market posted a decline in 2019 after several years of steady growth. The fall was mainly due to lower household incomes, rising value-added tax and high inflation. In addition, the abnormally warm autumn and early winter hit the sale of clothing and accessories.

According to Fashion Consulting Group, the turnover of the Russian textile and clothing market fell by 3-4% to RUB2.26-2.29trn (US$36.5-36.9bn) in 2019.
