Seoul Metro, the operator of subway lines 1–8 in the South Korean capital, plans to replace all fabric-upholstered seats with reinforced plastic chairs by 2029 to keep the subways clean from bedbugs and other pollutants.
According to the mass transit operator, fabric currently accounts for 54% of all subway seats operated by the city-run corporation, followed by reinforced plastic (29%) and stainless steel seats (17%).
