The Women’s Center Uzice in Uzice, Serbia, is seeking an investment of €180,000 (US$200,000) in a venture to recycle textile fibres.

The project’s objective is to set up a textile recycling centre that will function as a social company giving priority in employment to women who otherwise find it difficult to find work.

The Sustainable Solutions Through Waste Textile Recycling project was created in 2010 with the aim of building sustainable economic models of employment of women from vulnerable groups and to establish a primary waste selection system for the disposal of waste.

MPP Jedinstvo of Sevojno allocated 100 m2 of space within the former Cveta Dabic textile plant to the Women’s Center Uzice, which is used for the collection of textiles for recycling.

The association has so far established the infrastructure for primary selection of textiles as well as the manufacture of textile haberdashery from recycled textiles.

The Women’s Center Uzice is now looking to purchase additional containers, vehicles and a production line for recycling comprising three machines.
