‘Soft exports’ gaining momentum in Malaysia

The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) has recorded a steady export growth in lifestyle products, such as fashion, textiles, clothing and footwear, jewellery, gifts, cosmetics, beauty care and toiletries, and furniture.

The agency said exports of lifestyle products, also known as “soft exports”, had been gaining momentum in recent years.

Soft exports rose 13.2% to MYR36.9bn (US$8.9bn) in 2015 from MYR32.6bn (US$7.9bn) the previous year. Exports of fashion, textiles, clothing and footwear products rose by 9.1%.
