A Florida, USA, environmentalist has built a stylish, carbon-neutral sports car made of cannabis hemp using US$200,000 of his own money.

Bruce Michael Dietzen of Renew Sports Cars designed the “green machine”, which is made from three plies of woven hemp, making it lighter than cars made with fibreglass bodies. The body of the car uses about 45 kg of woven hemp, he explained.

Made from the chassis of a Mazda convertible, the two-seater car is also surprisingly strong: Diezten estimates the body is at least 10 times more dent-resistant than steel.
