Tailor-made polypropylene fibres for automotive composites

Polypropylene (PP) staple fibres are used in several automotive applications, including the luggage compartment, undershields, floor carpet systems, arch liners and seam reinforcement.

Speaking at the 54th Man-Made Fibers Congress held in September in Dornbirn, Austria, Hermann Linsbauer of IFG Asota, Austria, described research undertaken with the Transfercenter für Kunstofftechnik of Wels, Austria, on developing PP fibres for automotive composite applications.

In particular, the work aimed to develop PP binder fibres for such composite end-uses in combination with glass fibres and flax fibres, with and without additives.
