Toray Industries plans to build airbag fabric factories in India and North America by fiscal 2016, with the aim of becoming the industry leader.
The plant in India will help the company meet the anticipated rise in local demand for materials as more stringent safety standards boost airbag installation in cars.
And by creating a supply channel in North America, where it currently has a weak presence, Toray aims to become the global leader in airbag fabric by 2020, up from third at present.
The combined investment is projected at several billion yen.
