Uzbek human rights activist threatened, says cotton NGO

The Cotton Campaign has called on the Uzbek government to urgently investigate the targeted harassment of Umida Niyazova, a prominent human rights activist, and to reaffirm its commitment to independent labour rights monitoring in the cotton industry.

Niyazova, founder and director of the Uzbek Forum for Human Rights, was recently subjected to threats alongside Sharifa Madrakhimova, a respected journalist and activist, by unidentified assailants in the Fergana region, it is reported.
