Construction of the Phu Hung cotton plant started in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue’s Phu Bai Industrial Park in July.

With a total investment of VND253bn (US$12m), the facility is expected to be put into commercial operation in August 2014 with an annual capacity of 21,600 spools.

Once completed, the plant will generate jobs for 200 workers and produce 100% cotton yarn with an average output of 240 tonnes a month.

The Central Region, which includes Quang Nam, Da Nang and Thua Thien-Hue provinces is a manufacturing centre for Vietnam's textile industry, and the plant will help it to stay competitive when various free trade agreements are signed, said Le Tien Truong, deputy chairman of the Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group.
