A new textile cluster is to be established in the Stavropol region in the south of Russia, according to Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov.

Shamkhal Ildarov, president of the Textile and Light Industry Workers’ Union said southern Russia is one of the best regions for textile production, mainly due to its mild climate, which creates good conditions for cotton production and a high population density, which ensures stable supplies.

However, Olga Reshetnikova, general director of Orion, one of the region’s largest textile producers, said a major problem is the shortage of personnel and poor skills of young workers, which will complicate plans for the expansion of production and establishment of the new cluster.
