Preventing ulcers with printed sensors

InnovationLabA smart mattress cover has been developed in Germany with the potential to reduce the risk of developing decubitus ulcers – the potentially life-threatening pressure ulcers that affect up to 2.5m hospital patients in the US annually – by up to 88%.

It is based on the flexible printed sensors of InnovationLab, based in Heidelberg, combined with specialised health-monitoring software developed by Bitquadrat of Baden-Württemberg.
