Wireless sock monitors reduce rate of patient falls in hospitals

A study led by nurses at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center involving 569 hospitalised “fall risk” patients found the use of a wireless sock monitoring system resulted in zero falls.

The researchers evaluated the effectiveness of Palarum’s PUP (Patient is Up) smart socks – a wireless system that features knitted socks with pressure sensors that detect when a patient is trying to stand up.
